Meet Ednah
When Ednah's husband, a pastor, died, it felt as though life went with him.
Suddenly a widow, she was left trying to survive and provide for her family on an income that was barely enough to meet even the most basic needs.
Six days a week, Ednah walked miles each way to a hotel where she worked nine-hour days in a small massage tent. Transportation would have cost more than she earned in a day, so she walked.
At the end of the month, she earned enough for utilities and one simple meal a day.
Most days there were few customers. Ednah would sit alone in that little tent for hours—with her phone, her thoughts, and time.
Then she would walk the miles back home.
And sit alone again.
She described going home and sitting in her living room simply waiting until it was time to go to bed. Then she would wake up the next morning and do it all over again. Day after day after day.
The woman who had once served alongside her husband and poured into others had lost her zeal for life. She wasn't dreaming about the future anymore. She was surviving it.
Even something as simple as meat had become a luxury. Occasionally, an unexpected tip meant she could buy one chicken leg and thigh to share with her son.
And then our Be3 team asked Ednah a simple question:
“What has God put in your hand?”
At first, there didn't seem to be much.
But as we talked, another question came:
“What else do you know how to do?”
Ednah remembered something she had nearly forgotten.
“I used to crochet when I was a young girl.”
That small answer became the beginning of something new.
With an investment of approximately $320, Ednah was able to purchase materials and begin creating beautiful crocheted bags, incorporating seashells from the Kenyan coast.
But we weren't simply investing in a business.
We were investing in Ednah.
In her gifts.
In her dignity.
In her future.
And in the possibility that God wasn't finished writing her story.
Today, Ednah isn't only creating beautiful things with her hands. She is also pouring into other widows through Minus One, a community where women gather for worship, prayer, Bible stories, friendship, meals, and encouragement.
The woman who once sat alone waiting for the day to end is helping other women discover that there can still be more ahead.
What Is in Your Hand?
Ednah's story is the heartbeat behind Kingdom Businesses in the Be3 Marketplace.
Around the world, there are men and women within the people groups we serve who have skills, ideas, and God-given abilities—but lack the small amount of capital or resources needed to begin.
We want to ask them the same question we asked Ednah:
What has God put in your hand?
And then we want to come alongside them.
Your donation to Kingdom Businesses helps Be3 identify and invest in pastors and people like Ednah—helping launch sustainable businesses that can provide income, restore dignity, strengthen communities, and create new opportunities for God’s story to enter an unreached people group.
Ednah's business began with just $320.
Imagine how many more stories could begin when we choose to invest in what God has already placed in someone's hands.
